At Form+Folk, we offer a range of services. Our core services include:

A feasibility study is a way for us to explore the possibilities of a site or building before you make any major financial commitments. We carefully consider everything from site constraints and planning policies to design options and budget appraisals, offering straightforward, helpful guidance to support you in these early stages of a project.

We love working with clients to craft bespoke homes that align with our values. We offer a full range of architectural services, from initial concepts through to construction observation and handover, and we’re experienced in both new custom-builds and giving a new lease of life to existing buildings.

We believe in the power of architecture as a tool for building social value and driving positive change. Community projects are an opportunity to extend those benefits to the widest possible range of people, and so they are naturally an exciting prospect for us. We support charities, community interest companies, and other organisations in a variety of ways, from consulting on energy efficiency, carbon emissions, and regenerative design principles to taking the lead with a full set of architectural services.

We’re fully committed to ensuring all of our projects have a clearly defined pathway towards achieving net-zero by 2050, if not before. We're AECB-endorsed for preparing LCAs in accordance with UK standards for lifetime carbon analysis, meaning we can fully consider carbon emissions at all stages of a project, including those arising from the construction process itself, as well as from using the building and deconstructing it.

The passive house standard is widely regarded as the gold standard for energy efficiency, but it also delivers a range of other benefits, including healthier indoor air quality, improved comfort, and robustly designed and detailed buildings. The certification process provides rigorous quality assurance, ensuring the building performs as anticipated, and despite the name, the approach is equally applicable to a wide range of projects, domestic or non-domestic, new-build or not. We are proud to be certified passive house designers and consultants.

The creative re-use of existing buildings has a fundamental part to play in tackling the climate crisis, but without the right expertise, making them fit for purpose can be a daunting prospect. We are expert retrofit designers and are qualified under PAS 2035 to act as retrofit coordinators, meaning we have in-depth knowledge of how to avoid common pitfalls and make existing buildings comfortable, sustainable, and healthy. Our services include an in-depth evaluation of options and the preparation of step-by-step retrofit plans that can be implemented over a 15-20-year period, providing long-term clarity and preventing wrong turns along the way.

Our built heritage is hugely valuable and something we are passionate about conserving and enhancing. Our work with heritage buildings begins with gaining an in-depth understanding of their historic significance and how they were built. Our architectural proposals aim to preserve and enhance this significance while delivering sensitive yet meaningful improvements to energy efficiency and comfort.

It is a fundamental part of our design approach to consider the practicality, materiality, and appearance of interiors and how they connect with one another, the site, and the wider context. We craft thoughtful spaces that respond to the brief and the context, create moments of joy, and function seamlessly in our day-to-day lives.

The last decade has seen significant legislative changes affecting construction projects, designed to safeguard construction workers, building owners, and occupants. These changes include certain obligations for clients, including the need to appoint a competent principal designer. As chartered architects and retrofit coordinators, we possess the skills, knowledge, experience, and professionalism to fulfil this role across a range of projects and to guide our clients in meeting their obligations.
