As qualified retrofit coordinators and designers, we are highly experienced and knowledgeable in retrofitting existing homes to make them efficient, healthy, and comfortable in both summer and winter.
Our training and experience give us in-depth technical knowledge of how buildings behave before and after retrofits, and how different building types require different strategies to manage the technical risks that retrofitting can pose when a coherent strategy isn't put in place.
FAQs
Here are some answers to some of the most common questions we get asked about our whole-house retrofit strategies.
What will I get with my Retrofit Strategy?
Our Retrofit Strategy service aligns with the first part of a PAS 2035-compliant retrofit. We begin with an in-person visit to assess your home, establish desired outcomes, and understand your experience of living there. Next, we use energy modelling software to evaluate the options and discuss them with you to agree on the preferred approach. Finally, we prepare your Retrofit Strategy: an illustrated report that sets out our recommendations for improving your home, including indicative costs, phasing, and any further information requirements.
Will you help me implement the recommendations?
Our Retrofit Strategy is a standalone service designed to clarify how to make meaningful improvements to your home on a timescale that suits your needs. We'll do our best to give you plenty of guidance and point you in the right direction. If you think you might need further support with designing and implementing the measures we have recommended, please get in touch, and we'd be happy to discuss your requirements.
Who is this service suitable for?
Our Retrofit Strategy service is designed for homeowners who want to make their homes energy-efficient, healthy, and comfortable year-round. We recommend commissioning a retrofit strategy even if you are confident, but it is especially helpful for people who feel overwhelmed by the conflicting advice and horror stories that frequently circulate online and in the media.
I’m planning an extension/remodel too. Is this right for me?
This is intended to be a standalone service focused solely on retrofit measures. For clients looking to make additional changes, such as an extension or remodelling, we will incorporate a retrofit strategy into our architectural design services.
How much does a whole-house retrofit cost?
That’s a valid, but very big question that needs a big answer. We’ll do a blog post on that soon, and pop a link here.
What if I can’t afford a full retrofit of my home?
We hear this a lot, and there are many complex reasons why retrofitting is economically challenging. However, the best time to start a retrofit is now, and it needn’t be an all-or-nothing affair. Commissioning a Retrofit Strategy is still an excellent first step. We design them to be implemented step by step over a 10-15-year period, taking into account any other home-improvement plans you might have. Having the strategy in place now means you can get started with confidence and peace of mind, and avoid missing any opportunities to make improvements while you're doing other work.
What if I can’t finish the work before I move on?
Our Retrofit Strategy comes with a license that allows you to pass it on to the next owner. Use it as an asset, demonstrate your home’s full potential and show that the work you have done so far has been properly thought through.
